President's message
Mr.Hassan SENTISSI EL IDRISSI
President
The year 2021 was marked by profound changes induced by the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences on international supply chains and consumer habits. Thanks to the supportive measures for the productive sector advocated by His Majesty the King, may God protect him, as well as the efforts undertaken by the government and the FENIP, member associations, and companies in the sector, we are now witnessing a gradual recovery of the fisheries industry. Our fishing industry honors the "Product of Morocco" in 136 countries scattered across the five continents. It is a source of pride, considering that this effort is based on constantly improved and modernized production processes to perfectly adapt to international quality standards. Everything is done under quality labels. Nevertheless, our ambition is as vast as the horizons that open up for comprehensive valorization. The processing industry is at a pivotal stage that requires further breakthroughs. We have made diversification of production one of the major axes of our strategy by pushing operators as much as possible to align themselves with the pace of innovation. The objective is to reduce the share of exported seafood products that serve as raw materials for more innovative industries. It also aims to enable equipped local production units to diversify their production by expanding their offering to other product ranges that are suitable for market developments and consumer habits. The task is extensive and requires the implementation of necessary means, particularly through the program contract for which the FENIP continues to advocate, as well as the establishment of specific and sustainable financing to support the sector's development through the establishment of a MARITIME CREDIT. Furthermore, it is essential to encourage research and development and develop technological platforms, especially in the cities of Dakhla, Laâyoune, Agadir, Safi, Casablanca, and Tangier, in order to enable industrialists in these regions to pursue a continuous process of development and innovation. On the other hand, the FENIP places the sustainability of fishery resources at the center of its work program to preserve the significant wealth enjoyed by our country and help the sector master the challenges and tools of market access, while fully respecting sanitary, quality, ecological, and social standards by the public and private authorities, producers, and exporters. ...
FENIP and its Member Associations have identified six dimensions for the development of economic, social, and environmental performance in the sector.
